Rs 272 crore from Nirbhaya Fund granted for DU women’s hostels: Smriti Irani

The announcement was made by Union Minister Smriti Irani during her attendance at the Vikas Bharat Ambassador-Nari Shakti Conclave at Delhi University’s north campus.

Expressing alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India, Smriti Irani highlighted the initiative’s role in empowering working women and girls pursuing higher education.

ENHANCED SECURITY AND AMENITIES

The allocation of funds from the Nirbhaya Fund underscores the government’s commitment to providing safe and conducive living spaces for women students and professionals.

The sanctioned funds will be utilised to enhance residential facilities in women’s hostels across Delhi University.

This includes the provision of 1,000 beds equipped with state-of-the-art security measures such as CCTV surveillance.

Additionally, gender-sensitive amenities will be incorporated to ensure the holistic well-being of female residents.

PROMOTING SAFE SPACES

Smriti Irani’s announcement echoes her earlier commitment to allocate Nirbhaya Fund resources for women’s hostels in Delhi University on March 7.

The emphasis on bolstering security measures aligns with the government’s broader agenda of fostering safe environments for women to thrive and excel in their academic pursuits.
