CCL 2024 Playoffs: Bengal Tigers beat Mumbai Heroes to Reach Final
Bengal Heroes batted in the first innings and managed 140 for 3 in their 10 overs. It was a blitzkrieg from the Bengal batters and Jammy played a superb knock of 65 off just 30 balls.
Mumbai, in their first innings, batted beautifully but could only manage 123 runs. Shabir scored 35 runs for them while Ratnadeep picked up 2 wickets for Bengal. Thus, the Tigers went to the 2nd innings with a lead of 17 runs.
In the second innings, the Bengal batters struggled as Mumbai tightened the screws with some excellent piece of bowling. Raja and others picked wickets in regular intervals and the Tigers could only get to 80 runs in their ten overs. Raja was the pick of the bowler with 2 wickets while Joy was the highest scorer for Bengal in the 2nd innings with 18 runs.
Mumbai required 98 runs in the second innings to win the match, but they made a slow start. Sidhaant scored 17 off 14 balls but failed to find the momentum. Ananda got the crucial wicket of Navdeep Tomar and further dented the Mumbai chase. Mumbai needed 44 runs in the last three overs when Shabir Ahluwalia came to the crease.
But his stay was shortlived as Shabir could only score 1 run off 2 balls. Mumbai needed 23 runs off the final over. Freddy Daruwala hit the first ball for a boundary, and then got a bye in the second ball. Saqib Saleem tried hard but it was not enough as the Heroes fell short of 10 runs. It was not the best advertisement for celebrity cricket as tempers were flaring at the latter stages of the match.
Bengal Heroes will take on Karnataka Bulldozers in the CCL Final on Sunday (March 17) in Trivandrum.
