Mumbai Terror Attack: One Business Leader Who Showed Exemplary Courage, Compassion and Leadership, Check
Today marks the 16th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai Attacks, a tragic event that left an indelible mark on India. On this day in 2008, terrorists, including Ajmal Kasab, launched a coordinated attack on Mumbai, killing over 160 people and injuring more than 400. Among the targets was the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, part of the Tata Group.
Ratan Tata, then chairman of Tata Group, demonstrated exemplary leadership during the crisis. Upon hearing about the attack, he immediately rushed to the Taj Hotel. While National Security Guard (NSG) forces had begun their operation, Tata famously remarked to security personnel, “If needed, blow up the Taj Hotel, but no terrorist should escape.” His commitment to the nation outweighed concerns for the hotel.
In the aftermath, Ratan Tata went beyond financial aid by ensuring education and support for the children of victims, a gesture that earned him immense respect across the nation.
The Tragedy of 26/11
The attacks began when 10 terrorists arrived in Mumbai via the sea route from Pakistan. They targeted key locations, including the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Nariman House, and the Taj Hotel. Using AK-47s and grenades, they killed and injured scores of civilians. NSG commandos launched a counter-offensive, killing nine terrorists and capturing Ajmal Kasab alive.
