Pitru Paksha 2024: Pitru Paksha has great importance in Hinduism. It is believed that this time is dedicated to the ancestors. What is Panchbali Karma?
Panchbali Karma has a unique place in Pitru Paksha and it is an ancient Vedic ritual, by performing which the souls of ancestors or forefathers get peace. Panchbali is made up of two words, one of which is Panch and the other is Bali. Panch means five and Bali means offering. During Pitru Paksha, when food is kept for different creatures at five different places, it is called Panchbali Karma. Let us tell you that, in Panchbali, food is kept for five people, these include gods, ancestors, spirits, humans and Brahmins.
How is Panchbali Karma performed?
There is a religious belief that when we feed crows during Pitru Paksha, it reaches the ancestors. Similarly, food is also given to some other creatures during Pitru Paksha, through which the ancestors get food. In Panchbali Karma, food is kept in a plate at five different places in the house and a pledge of Panchbali donation is taken by holding water, roli, Akshat flowers etc. in the hand. Panchbali Karma begins with the cow, because it is said to take the ancestors from Bhulok to Bhuv Lok.
