After some time, while walking in the forest, the king met an old woman who was crying. On questioning her, the king was told that the girl belonged to the Nagavanshi (family of snakes) and that she had only one son. But as per his vow, the bird king Garuda had a daily ritual of offering a snake, and today it was his son's turn. Seeing the plight of the woman, Jimudavahanan promised to save her son and her life from Garuda. Then he covered himself with a red cloth, lay down on the rocks and fed Garuda. When Garuda came, he caught Jimudavaganan. While eating he noticed that there were no tears in his eyes and no fear of death. Garuda is surprised by this and asks his real identity. While listening to the whole story, the bird king released Jimtuvahana with Garuda. For he rejoiced in his boldness, and promised that he would not accept the sacrifices and sacrifices of snakes. Thus the lives of the snakes were saved by the generosity and valor of the king. Hence this day is celebrated as Jeeviputrika fast.
