New Delhi: Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor has got relief in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi comment case. The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the proceedings in a lower court in a defamation case filed against Shashi Tharoor for his alleged comment on 'scorpion on Shivling' while targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and R Madhavan issued notice to the Delhi government and the complainant in the matter and asked them to respond to the notice within four weeks.

Tharoor had moved the High Court on August 29 against the Delhi High Court's order refusing to quash the defamation proceedings against him. Tharoor had requested the cancellation of the lower court's order of April 27, 2019.
The trial court had summoned Tharoor as an accused in a criminal defamation complaint filed by Rajiv Babbar. He had also sought quashing of the complaint filed on November 2, 2018.
