Leopard Attack in Udaipur: Woman Killed, Highway Blocked

Udaipur : A tragic incident unfolded in Udaipur on Sunday morning when a leopard attacked three women who were collecting firewood near the jhaadol police station. While two women managed to escape the vicious assault, a 40-year-old woman named Mirabai was not as fortunate.
The leopard dragged Mirabai into a nearby jungle where her body was later discovered, with her head severed from her torso. The gruesome discovery sparked outrage among local villagers, who blocked the Udaipur-Ahmedabad National Highway, demanding justice and compensation.
Protesters demanded a compensation of 51 lakh rupees and called for the leopard to be killed. The highway remained blocked for several hours as police and local officials tried to calm the situation.
After negotiations, the authorities agreed to provide a compensation of 10 lakh rupees to Mirabai’s family and offer employment to two of her family members at a forest department nursery. Following the agreement, the highway was reopened.
Forest department officials, along with local authorities, launched a search operation using drones to locate the leopard but were unsuccessful. The incident has raised concerns about human-wildlife conflict in the region and has prompted calls for increased safety measures in areas where leopards are known to roam.
