New Delhi, September 5 (IANS). You must have often heard people say that they feel tired all day. They don't feel like doing any work, their body feels tired all day. If you are also facing all these problems, then get your hemoglobin checked today.
Working on nutrition related measures, 'National Nutrition Week' is celebrated every year from 1st September to 7th September in India. IANS is also working to make people aware in this regard. Today we will talk about anemia caused by iron deficiency i.e. lack of hemoglobin. We will try to know what health problems people can face due to lack of hemoglobin.
First of all, let us tell you that when there is a lack of red blood cells or hemoglobin in the blood, that condition is called anemia. The blood cell level in the body of a person suffering from anemia falls below normal.
Often the problem of anemia is more common in women. The biggest reason behind this is that women go through the menstrual cycle every month, due to which they often have the problem of anemia. Due to lack of hemoglobin, the skin starts turning yellow.
Let us tell you that women have less haemoglobin than men. Generally, 13.5-17.5 grams per deciliter is considered to be the normal level of haemoglobin in men. Whereas, 12.0 – 15.5 grams per deciliter is considered to be normal in women.
Hemoglobin is a type of protein present in the red blood cells of the body, which works to deliver oxygen to the body.
To get more information on this, IANS spoke to Dr Mohsin Wali, Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
He said, “Today many Indian women are suffering from iron deficiency, which is called anemia. This condition occurs when there is not enough iron in the food. In rural areas, women usually face this problem after becoming mothers. They are not able to pay attention to their health along with household chores, due to which there is a deficiency of many types of vitamins and minerals in their body. In such a situation, they become victims of iron deficiency.”
Talking about the symptoms of anemia, Dr Mohsin said, “Iron deficiency in the body causes many symptoms, including fatigue, headache and nervousness. Sometimes iron deficiency can also cause stomach ulcers.”
He said that today about 30 to 40 percent of Indians are suffering from iron deficiency, this figure has also come to light in many reports.
To overcome anemia, he said that first of all it is necessary to increase the amount of iron in the diet. For this, he advised to eat green leafy vegetables, fruits, and figs.
Dr Mohsin has clearly said that instead of roti, focus on including pulses and vegetables in your diet, so that you can get ample amount of iron in the food.
He further said, “In many places, people's staple food is rice, even then they do not get enough iron. In such a situation, they also need to focus more on vegetables.
Talking about children, he said, “Nowadays children focus more on fast food, due to which they also become victims of iron deficiency. In such a situation, they need to be kept away from fast food.”
The doctor has also advised to do exercise to overcome iron deficiency.
