Elon Musk is mad at me, says Don Lemon as his show on X gets cancelled
He had back then called X the “biggest space for free speech” in the world and said he knows that there is a need of a place for “honest debate and discussions” without the “hall monitors.” However, the show has already been cancelled, before it even got a chance to air its pilot episode.
Don Lemon shared the news of the show’s cancellation on X. In a video, he said that Elon Musk is “mad at him” after he shot the first episode of his show with the tech mogul. From the video, it appears that Musk didn’t like some questions that Lemon asked him during the show. As a result, X cancelled its commercial partnership with the former CNN anchor.
In the video posted on X, Lemon said, “Throughout our conversation, I kept reiterating to him (Elon Musk) that although it was tense at times, I thought it was good for people to see and hear our exchange and that they would learn from our conversation. But apparently, free speech absolutism doesn’t apply when it comes to questions about him from people like me.”
Lemon also mentioned that the first episode of the show will air on his YouTube channel, on March 18, and people can decide for themselves if Elon even had a reason to be upset or not.
X also responded to the situation through a post and said that Lemon is “welcome to publish its content on the platform without censorship.” However, the company is no longer entering a commercial partnership with the show after “careful consideration.”
“X is a platform that champions free speech, and we’re proud to provide an open environment for diverse voices and perspectives. The Don Lemon Show is welcome to publish its content on X, without censorship, as we believe in providing a platform for creators to scale their work and connect with new communities. However, like any enterprise, we reserve the right to make decisions about our business partnerships, and after careful consideration, X decided not to enter into a commercial partnership with the show,” the post read.
