There will be no holiday on 15th August now… Bangladesh is changing after the coup!
Martyrdom Day of Mujibur Rahman: After the coup in Bangladesh, supporters of Sheikh Hasina and the legacy of her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are the target of the fundamentalists. Mujibur Rahman has been called the nation builder of Bangladesh and his martyrdom day i.e. 15th August has been celebrated as a national day of mourning. There was a public holiday on this day every year. However, helpless in front of the fundamentalists, the interim government of Nobel Peace Prize winner Mohammad Yunus has canceled the holiday on the martyrdom day of Mujibur Rahman.

In fact, the first Prime Minister of independent Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was shot dead on 15 August 1975. He was shot dead by army officers at his residence in Dhanmundi, Dhaka. That day, 40 people, including most of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's family members, were killed. However, Rahman's eldest daughter Sheikh Hasina was in Germany at that time, so she survived. Due to this rebellion, Sheikh Hasina had to take political asylum in India.
When Sheikh Hasina formed the government in Bangladesh in 1996, 15 August was declared as National Mourning Day, but after Sheikh Hasina left the country, fundamentalists are targeting Mujibur Rahman's statue and other heritages. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's interim government advisor Mohammad Yunus has announced that there will be no holiday on National Mourning Day in memory of Mujibur Rahman. He said that this decision has been taken after consultation with all political parties.
