Indian Visa Centre in Dhaka Resumes with Limited Operations
The Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Dhaka has resumed “limited operations” following a period of unrest in Bangladesh. The turmoil resulted in the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who resigned and fled to India last week amidst widespread protests against her Awami League-led government’s controversial job quota system.
In a press release, the IVAC announced the resumption of limited operations at its Dhaka centre. However, applicants are advised to arrive only after receiving a text message regarding passport collection. The closure of all visa centres in the country had been previously announced due to the unstable situation following the fall of the Hasina-led government.
As the situation gradually stabilizes, other services are also returning to normalcy. The National Emergency Hotline Service has been restored, and police officers have returned to their stations, along with traffic police personnel resuming work. Additionally, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education instructed primary schools to reopen after a month of closure.
Despite the political upheaval, the Foreign Affairs Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, Md Touhid Hossain, emphasized that deposed Prime Minister Hasina’s extended stay in India would not harm bilateral relations. He stated that the relationship between the two countries transcends the presence of any individual and that both nations will continue to strive for good relations.
Meanwhile, India remains in contact with Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety and security of its missions, personnel, and citizens residing in Bangladesh.
