Opposition MPs united on the issue of GST on health insurance
Delhi, Aug 6 (IANS) India Block parties, including the Congress, on Tuesday protested against the increase in GST on health insurance. During this, opposition MPs also mentioned that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had written a letter to the government on this issue.
MPs of opposition parties gathered outside Makar Dwar in the Parliament premises and expressed their protest. Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also participated in this protest.
The protesting Congress MPs said that the GST imposed by the government on health insurance has affected the common man a lot. The Congress Rajya Sabha MPs said during this time that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari himself has written a letter on this subject.
Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi said that not only the opposition but also within the government there is opposition to the GST rates on health insurance. Opposition MP Mahua Maji said during this protest that the government has imposed 18 percent GST on health insurance by adopting a dictatorial attitude without thinking anything.
He said that decisions are being taken arbitrarily without considering the convenience and inconvenience of the people. First demonetization was done, then GST was implemented. If 18 percent GST is levied on health insurance, then it will affect the middle class the most.
He said that if health insurance becomes expensive, people will stop buying insurance. They will invest their money in some other place like gold, property etc. so that if they fall ill, they can sell this property and get their treatment done.
It is worth noting that the opposition parties staged this protest in the Parliament premises against the GST rates on health insurance. This protest of the Congress party is going to continue inside the House as well. However, inside the House, it will register its protest on other issues.
The Congress party says that it will bring a privilege motion against Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan. The Congress has said that Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has misled the Rajya Sabha with his statements.
Congress says that the track record of the country's Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has been bad against the farmers in Raisen and Mandsaur and now he has become the Agriculture Minister of the country.
