4 killed in encounter and blast in Manipur, ex-MLA's wife also killed.
Recently two cases have come to light in Manipur, the first was an encounter and the second was a blast. An encounter broke out on Friday between United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) militants and rural volunteers in Manipur's Tenggnaupal district, with firing from both sides. 4 people were killed in this shooting. A UKLF terrorist and three village volunteers from the same community were killed in the firing. Following this clash between the militants and the volunteers, the Kuki community was enraged by the killing of three of their men, due to which the volunteers of the village set fire to the house of UKLF leader SS Hawkip. The police said that security forces have launched a search operation, but although the situation is under control, no one has been arrested yet. On the other hand, a bomb exploded in Manipur's Kangbokbi district on Saturday, killing the wife of a former MLA, officials said. He said a blast was carried out at a house near Saikul former MLA Yamthong Hakip's house on Saturday evening. Hawkip's second wife Sapham Charupala was injured in the blast and was rushed to hospital but could not be saved, officials said. Former MLA Hawkip also escaped unhurt as he was at his house when the blast occurred. The inter-caste dispute has drawn the attention of the entire country towards Manipur since May last year, in fact, a war broke out in Manipur's capital Imphal since last year due to differences between the two castes. It was done by standing against each other. More than 200 people have been killed and thousands displaced in this ethnic conflict between the Meidai people of the Imphal Valley and the Kukis of the hills of Manipur.
