Ford Adds A Pursuit Button To Its Interceptor: New Updates

New Delhi: Ford Pro has launched the 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Utility (PIU), now being delivered to police forces across the United States. The latest addition to Ford’s police vehicle lineup, the 2025 PIU, brings an exciting hybrid powertrain option, marking a significant step forward in fuel efficiency and sustainability for law enforcement vehicles.
Assembled at the Chicago Assembly Plant, the new PIU is part of a broader range of police vehicles, which includes the 2024 F-150 Police Responder, Expedition/MAX SSV, and Transit Prisoner Transport Vehicle models. The hybrid powertrain stands out for its ability to keep onboard equipment running even when the gasoline engine is off, potentially saving up to 3,172 litres of fuel annually. This efficiency could translate into cost savings of around $17,500 over six years, assuming a fuel price of $3.50 per gallon. Additionally, the PIU meets rigorous 120 km/h rear-impact crash test standards, further highlighting its safety credentials.
2025 Ford PIU: Special Features

Ford has equipped the 2025 PIU with a host of features designed to enhance officer safety and operational efficiency. The Police Perimeter Alert system, for example, detects movement around the vehicle, automatically triggering the rear camera, sounding an alert, rolling up windows, and locking doors. The Police Engine Idle feature allows officers to leave the vehicle running while locking it and taking the keys, providing added convenience and security.
For protection against firearm threats, optional ballistic panels for the front doors are available. Standard driver-assist technologies include Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring with Cross-traffic Alert, and Reverse Brake Assist, ensuring officers have the latest safety tools at their disposal.
2025 Ford PIU: Specifications

The 2025 PIU offers three powertrain options: a 3.3-litre direct-injected V6 with a hybrid system, a 3.3-litre V6 gas engine, and a 3.0-litre V6 EcoBoost engine, delivering up to 400 bhp and 562 Nm of torque. The vehicle also features a 12.3-inch LCD digital instrument cluster and a Manual Police Pursuit Mode, activated via a steering wheel button, providing officers with enhanced control during high-speed chases.
2025 Ford PIU: Additional Features

Incorporating the Ford Pro Vehicle Integration System 2.0 and over-the-air update capabilities, the 2025 PIU is built to keep pace with technological advancements. Officers can also benefit from four remappable switches on the steering wheel, enabling quick control of lights, sirens, and other critical functions. Additionally, an available lockable vault offers secure storage for weapons and evidence, while the Police Accessory Independent Timed-Release Output (PAITRO) system secures the rear cargo area.
Ford Pro Telematics
The 2025 PIU also includes a Ford modem with an option to subscribe to Ford Pro Telematics, offering real-time vehicle data to assist fleet managers with maintenance planning and operational efficiency.
