Budhadev Bhattacharya's last journey today, former Bengal CM's last rites will not be performed
Kolkata: The body of former West Bengal Chief Minister late Budhadev Bhattacharya will be taken to the CPI(M) state headquarters at Alimuddin Street today, where leaders and common people will pay tribute to him today. After this, his body will be taken to NRS Medical College and Hospital for medical research.
Let us inform you that the stalwart leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Buddhadev Bhattacharya died at his residence in Kolkata last Thursday. He was suffering from respiratory and old age related diseases for a long time.
Former Chief Minister Bhattacharya is survived by his wife Mira and daughter Suchetana. CPI(M) leader Bhattacharya was the Chief Minister of the state from 2000 to 2011. In 2015, he resigned from the Politburo of CPI(M) as well as the Central Committee of his party. In July, his health condition suddenly worsened due to difficulty in breathing. He was then admitted to the ICU of Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata.
Buddhadev Bhattacharya lived in a small two-room government apartment in Ballygunge area of South Kolkata. He was suffering from a disease called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and had rarely left the house in the last few years. He was last seen outside in the year 2019.

After the public offering of tributes today, his body will be taken to the hospital from the MCP headquarters as Budhadeb had already announced that his body should be dedicated to medical research after his death. The former chief minister's body was kept overnight at a mortuary here and was taken to the state assembly at 11 am today.

His body will be kept here for half an hour. He said that at 12 noon, Bhattacharya's body will be brought to the CPI(M) state headquarters Muzaffar Ahmed Bhavan here and will be kept there till 3.15 pm. Here leaders, supporters and common people will pay tribute to the late leader. The body of Bhattacharya, who had a special place among people of different parties and political ideologies for his simplicity and work style, will be taken from the CPI(M) state headquarters to the DYFI state headquarters. Former Chief Minister Budhadev Bhattacharya was one of the founding members of DYFI.
