Is International Olympic Committee Biased Against India? Nation Fuels with Anger over Vinesh Phogat’s Disqualification
For being overweight, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the 50kg women’s wrestling competition at the Olympics in Paris. With profound sadness, the Indian contingent revealed that, in spite of their best efforts over the night, Vinesh’s weight this morning was marginally over the 50 kg limit. In order to concentrate on the ongoing contests, the team has asked for Vinesh’s privacy. Anger and dissatisfaction have spread throughout India as a result of this tragedy. Many people are expressing their displeasure and fury about the disqualification on Twitter with the hashtag #Boycott, which is now trending.
Allegations of Bias
Allegations of bias by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have added to the debate. Just a few days ago, Imane Khelif, an Algerian boxer, was granted permission to compete in the Olympics even though she is biologically male. There has been a great deal of uncertainty and criticism over this decision. Khelif had already failed a gender eligibility test, which resulted in his disqualification from the 2023 world championships. However, the fact that she was allowed to compete in the Olympics in Paris raises concerns about the impartiality and consistency of the IOC’s rulings.
IOA is a hypocriteImane Khelif, who looks like a man, was not disqualified by the Olympic Committee. And Vinesh Phogat was disqualified there. This is sheer dishonesty and bias.#BoycottOlympics | #VineshPhogat | #Disqualified | #Olympics | #Paris2024 | #OlympicGames pic.twitter.com/4jb4hvikz2— जन सुनवाई | Jan Sunwai (@JanSunwaiBharat) August 7, 2024

Come back stronger! We are all rooting for you.”
