Expressing concern over the increase in waste in rivers, the Supreme Court has asked the central government to respond within 4 weeks

The Supreme Court on Tuesday expressed its displeasure over the increasing pollution and plastic waste in the Ganges and other rivers. The Supreme Court took a major intervention to save the rivers and expressed concern over the serious environmental problem. Further, the central and state governments have been instructed to resolve the issue immediately. The Supreme Court has insisted that concrete steps should be taken to clean the rivers from plastic waste. The court asked the concerned governments to take appropriate steps to clean up the Ganges and other rivers by involving the public and creating awareness. The Supreme Court said that unless the rivers are freed from plastic, the government's clean-up efforts are flawed. He directed that the central and state governments should take immediate concrete steps to deal with this serious problem. Also, the central government has to file an affidavit within 4 weeks.
