Last week, Parineeti praised Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav for raising the issue of film piracy in Parliament. During his speech in the Rajya Sabha, Raghav said that piracy has “plagued” both cinema and OTT platforms,
COVID-19 Piracy has increased by 62 percent during the lockdown.
Raghav said in the speech, “Piracy is a big problem that is prevalent in the film industry and now in the OTT world as well. The film industry is losing Rs 20,000 crore annually due to piracy. Online piracy saw a 62 per cent increase during the pandemic. We passed the Cinematographic (Amendment) Bill a year ago, but it does not have any concrete mechanism against online piracy and it mainly focuses on anti-cam recording in multiplexes.” He further said, “As we are going digital and most films are being streamed on platforms, I ask the government what is being done to curb the issue of digital piracy on OTT and does the government have any plans to bring a dedicated law for this?” After Raghav concluded his speech, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar smiled and said, “He knows a lot about the film industry. Recently, he has gained experience.”
Parineeti praised Raghav for addressing the issue of film piracy.
