Mayawati is ready to field Dalits with the race of reservation, will SC's decision be a turning point for BSP?

Bahujan Samaj Party founder Kanshiram inspired such political sentiment among the Dalit community that Mayawati came to power four times in UP. In the eighties, Kanshi Ram ignited a political spark among the Dalits, who were standing at the bottom of society, bringing them to the center of the political hierarchy. Mayawati's monopoly on the Dalit vote continued for a long time, but with her absence from power, the BSP's political base has continued to shrink. In such a scenario, the Supreme Court's verdict on SC-ST reservation has created a problem for the BSP, on which Mayawati is trying to regain the confidence of the Dalit community. The Supreme Court has given states the right to reserve seats for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes as sub-categories. Justice PR Kawai also insisted on implementation of creamy layer in SC-ST reservation. Mayawati openly protested against the Supreme Court's verdict. Mayawati said the reservation sharing was unfair and unconstitutional. Besides reviewing the verdict, the Supreme Court appealed to protect the constitutional rights of SCs and STs. He asked the Dalit community to understand the emergency and come together to put pressure on all the political parties to force constitutional amendments. Mayawati is busy making the quota allocation decision a political issue. Bahujan Samaj Party is gearing up to raise the issue of reservation and strengthen the organization across the state. The BSP has devised a strategy to create awareness among the people through gram sabhas about reservation. For this, special guidelines have also been given to BSP leaders from district to village level. BSP is trying to effectively establish the issue of reservation among Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe voters. The strategy is to claim that the end of SC-ST reservation is a conspiracy to end reservation, without talking about the political loss to the Dalit community. Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati's nephew Akash Anand has started making Dalit reservation a political issue. When BJP and Congress show Lal Kitab and say they have come to save the Constitution, they are trying to take away your rights from you, he said. Akash Anand said in Kohna, Haryana, Friends, on one side is the BJP, which is targeting Hon'ble Kanshi Ram Saheb's movement and on the other side is the Congress which always hates Baba Saheb. Both parties follow caste mentality. They are trying to distort the reservation and constitution in various ways for their benefit. Through this he tries to win the trust of the Dalit community and become their well-wisher. The Bahujan Samaj Party had an impact on the politics of UP in the eighties. Emphasizing social justice, Ganshiram had said that 'One's participation equals one's power'. In this way, Ghanshiram first formed DS-4, then BAMCEF for rights and freedoms of Dalit community and in 1984, Bahujan Samaj Party was formed to give political rights to Dalit, OBC and minority communities. BSP made its own mark in Uttar Pradesh politics, with the help of which Mayawati became Chief Minister for four terms. Ganshiram continued to politicize the Bahujan community and Mayawati brought everyone together. The result was that Mayawati formed the government with an absolute majority in UP in 2007, but after this the BSP began to weaken. The party's performance has never been better since Mayawati's ouster in Uttar Pradesh in 2012. With the dwindling support base in UP and the battle for the Dalit vote bank, the challenge for the BSP has increased. Mayawati is going through a very difficult phase. The Dalit vote in Uttar Pradesh is 21 percent, and the BSP's vote share in 2019 fell from 19.43 percent to 9.39 percent. This shows that the non-Jadav voters have already drifted away from him, and the Jadav voters have also been dispersed by the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. 60 per cent of the Jadav caste voters were still with the BSP, but the SP-Congress managed to secure 30 per cent of the votes. Only 10 percent votes went to BJP. Likewise, moss polls are also fragmented. The Supreme Court's judgment has cleared the way for devolution of the 21 per cent reservation given to the Dalit community in UP. Dalits in UP are politically divided into Jadavs and non-Jadavs. During the Rajnath regime, there was talk of dividing the 21 percent Dalit reservation into 10 percent and 11 percent in UP, but due to the strength of the BSP at that time, it could not be implemented. In UP, the Jadav community has benefited the most from the reservation given to Scheduled Castes, followed by Dhobi, Basi and other castes, but Dalit castes such as Khori, Kol, Balmiki have not received the same reservation as Jadavs. Mayawati has now launched an attempt to merge the Basi, Dhobi and Katik communities, giving constitutionality to the Supreme Court ruling while upholding the confidence of the Jadav community, which is seen as a major political gamble. It seems that the Bahujan Samaj Party leader is returning to the side of the Bahujan community. The issue of reservation is becoming a big problem for them. Ready for reservation issue in UP: Mayawati plans to make reservation a big issue in Uttar Pradesh. Within quotas there is a strategy of creating a political environment at the grassroots level in relation to subdivisional decision-making. BSP men can be seen going from village to village to make SC-ST understand that BJP and Congress are conspiring to abolish Dalit reservation. Thus, Mayawati's concern is to save her crumbling vote bank. In this regard, the party members have been instructed to set up chapels in every village. Dalit and tribal people will be invited. The way Akash Anand has opened up a front in Haryana, it is clear that BSP is planning to regain its lost political base.
