According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement at COP26, new and renewable energy is working towards reaching 500 GW of installed power capacity, Prahalad Joshi said. Energy security is one of the 9 key priority areas of this government. For this, the renewable energy ministry's budget allocation has been almost doubled. ₹20,000 crore this year compared to ₹10,000 crore last year. Union New and Renewable Energy Minister said that jobs will be created in renewable energy. It can create awareness about energy conservation and reduce carbon emissions. Sustainable development will be encouraged, which is also in the interest of the environment. He said that this opportunity should be used to make India a global leader in RE. Prahalad Joshi said RE has been established in the last decade ie since 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Its efficiency has increased by 165%. This has increased from 76.38 GW in 2014 to 203.1 GW. For the first time in the country, we have crossed the 200 GW capacity from non-fossil fuels. At the same time, in the last 10 years, the installed solar power capacity has increased by 2.82 GW. The share of thermal sources in 2013-14 was 67.69%, but in 2024-25 (up to June, 2024) it has come down to 54.46%, the Union Minister said. At the same time, the share of non-fossil fuel in total installed capacity increased from 32.30% to 45.54%. Total RE production in India increased by 193.50 billion units (BU), he said. An increase of 359.89 BU (ie 86% increase) has been recorded from 2013-14 to 2023-24. Solar energy tariff in 2010-11 was Rs.10.95. A unit has decreased significantly. To facilitate large-scale adoption of rooftop solar power, the Union Cabinet on 29.02.2024 approved the 'B.M. Surya Khar: Approves 'Free Power Scheme' Through this, it has been decided to install rooftop solar power for one crore households. Through this scheme, households can save electricity bills and earn additional income.
