Unable to sustain early gains, Sensex-Nifty fell
STOCK MARKET: Due to soft trend in global markets, stock market could not sustain its early gains on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. Although the stock market saw a strong rally in the morning trade, it ended in decline. At the close of trade, the Mumbai Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex fell 166.33 points, or 0.21%, to end at 78,737.88. Meanwhile, the National Stock Exchange's (NSE) Nifty was down 63.05 points, or 0.26%, at 23,992.55. In morning trade, the Sensex opened 1,092.68 points higher at 79,852.08 points. The Nifty also opened its trade at 24,382.60 points, up by around 327 points. Earlier, on Monday, the Sensex took a huge dive of 2226.49 points or 2.75% to touch the level of 78,755.46. Meanwhile, the Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) closed at 24,285.45 points, down a whopping 432.25 or 1.75%. 17 Sensex stocks fell. Of this, Mahindra & Mahindra shares lost the most by 1.77 percent. Additionally, State Bank of India, Bharti Airtel, State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, Titan, IndusInd Bank, Axis Bank, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finance, Ultratech Cement, Powergrid, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Tata Motors Nestlé India, Bajaj Finserv And Adani Ports shares suffered losses. Apart from this, shares of 15 companies gained. Shares of 13 companies listed on the Sensex gained in Tuesday's trade. Among these, JSW shares had the highest gain of 2.36 percent. After this, stocks of Tech Mahindra, Larsen & Trubo, HCL Technologies, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Steel, Reliance, National Thermal Power Corporation, ITC, Adani Ports, Tata Motors and Infosys gained.
