Railways: Following the August 5 coup in Bangladesh, Indian Railways has announced that the five-day weekly Maitri Express service between Kolkata and Dhaka will be suspended due to current events. The service has been closed for the past 15 days due to the ongoing protests in Bangladesh. Apart from this, the twice weekly Bandhan Express service between Kolkata and Khulna will also be suspended till further notice. These trains running between India and Bangladesh are to be stopped. Kolkata-Dhaka-Goa Maitri Express train number 13107/13108 will be canceled from July 19 to August 6, 2024. Train no. 13109/13110 (Kolkata-Dhaka-Kolkata Maitri Express) will be canceled from 19 July 2024 to 6 August 2024. Kolkata-Kulna-Kolkata Bandhan Express (Train No. 13129/13130) will be canceled from July 19 to August 6, 2024. Mithali Express (Rail-NFR Train No. 13131/13132) will not run from 21st July 2024 as it is in Bangladesh. A fortnight ago, trains did not run due to riots, and India suspended all train services to Bangladesh due to violent protests. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today resigned as Prime Minister and left the country with her sister. More than 300 people have died in the unrest in Bangladesh so far. The cause of these riots was popular resentment over the controversial job quota system. He also acknowledged the substantial economic losses incurred as a result of the violent protests. General Waqar-uz-Zaman took full responsibility for the situation and said he would help lead the caretaker government. He announced Sheikh Hasina's resignation in a televised address.
