Kolkata. A surprising scene was seen in the West Bengal Assembly on Monday. Let us tell you that for the first time, unity was seen between the ruling party Trinamool Congress and the opposition party BJP on an issue. Let us tell you that what happened was that TMC had presented a proposal in the Assembly against dividing Bengal. Both the parties came together on this and the proposal was passed unanimously.
It is worth noting that a few days ago, Bengal BJP President Sukant Majumdar had created a stir by allegedly raising the demand for division of Bengal. Many Trinamool Congress leaders had expressed their displeasure over this. Even the BJP leaders themselves were not unanimous on this demand of Majumdar. Its effect was seen in the assembly on Monday as well and TMC-BJP came together on this issue. While putting forth his point on the advertisement proposal, West Bengal Chief Minister Sukant Majumdar said that the Trinamool Congress is not ready to divide Bengal.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that we believe in cooperative federalism. We are against attempts to divide the state. The BJP said in the assembly that it is against the idea of dividing the state. However, it made it clear that it wants the development of the northern parts of Bengal. Shubhendu Adhikari appealed to add a line in the resolution presented in the House that we want the complete development of united West Bengal. We oppose any attempt to divide West Bengal.
His proposal was accepted by CM Mamata Banerjee. With this, the proposal was passed unanimously in the House. Earlier, the West Bengal Assembly had passed a similar proposal by voice vote in February last year against the efforts to divide the state.
