Tomato price: The government has released good news to the public, tomatoes are available for Rs 50 per kg in Delhi.
Tomato price: Inflation like Surasa is taking lives of common people and in the era of rising inflation, essential vegetables like tomato and onion have become expensive like gold. Volatility in the price of these vegetables is affecting the lives of the public. Understanding the concerns of the people, the government is taking steps to overcome this problem by ensuring cheap availability of tomatoes in big cities like Mumbai and Delhi. To provide relief to consumers, the government has decided to reduce the price of tomatoes from Rs 60 to Rs 50 per kg. This initiative to provide relief to the common people was launched in Delhi by Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Prakalat Joshi and later it was implemented in Mumbai as well. During the press conference, Joshi said: The price of tomatoes has come down due to the efforts of the government. In a press release issued by Consumer Affairs Department Secretary Niti Kare, he said that tomatoes will be sold at Rs. 50 per kg in Delhi and Mumbai from August 2. The Indian National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF) has started selling tomatoes through mobile vans to make tomatoes easily available to consumers. According to the information provided by the Department of Consumer Affairs, the average price of tomatoes in India till July was Rs 61.74 per 31 kg. In the capital, Delhi, it rose marginally to Rs 70 per kg overnight. It is to be noted that the price of tomato crossed Rs 100 a month ago due to disruption in supply due to weather conditions like high temperature and heavy rainfall in major tomato growing areas across the country. Efforts to cut out middlemen continue: Nithi Khare said the ministry is mulling selling tomatoes in association with Mother Dairy at 'Safala' shops in and around Delhi. Instead of relying on the price stabilization fund, they go to the mandis and procure tomatoes directly. The consortium handles all the buying and selling work, ensuring prices are fair and middlemen are removed to benefit consumers.
