The Supreme Court has refused to cancel the Junior NEET exam. SC refused to cancel the exam, said – there was no systemic violation
Live Hindi News :- The Supreme Court has refused to cancel this year's Junior NEET exam. More than 40 people had filed a case alleging various irregularities in the Junior NEET exam held this year. Some petitioners had demanded that the Junior NEET exam held this year should be cancelled and held again. Others wanted the exam not to be cancelled; they demanded that the National Testing Agency be banned from holding the exam again.
The bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, which heard these cases, pronounced its verdict today. Detail of the verdict: The arguments in this case are completed. The verdict is deferred. Since this case is related to the future lives of more than 20 lakh students, a concrete and final decision is urgently required. In view of this, the final judgments of the court are recorded at the present stage.
There are many reasons for this decision taken by the court. The question papers of NEET Junior exam were leaked in Hazaribagh and Patna. There is no doubt about it. The investigation conducted by the CBI in this regard has reported that 155 students have benefited from the leak of the question paper. However, the CBI has said that the investigation is ongoing.
The government has submitted the report of IIT Chennai that there was no mass leak of NEET question paper. The court has independently examined the data provided by the National Examination Agency. Based on the information on record, the result of the exam is poor and there is no indication to show that the sanctity of the exam has been deliberately violated.
The government said that if a re-examination is ordered, it will adversely affect 23 lakh students, disrupt the admission schedule of medical courses and adversely affect the availability of qualified medical professionals in future. For the above reasons, we are of the view that it would not be appropriate to order a complete cancellation of the Junior NEET exam. This is stated in the decision.
Background of the case: In our country, admissions are conducted on the basis of National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) for MBBS, BDS courses and All India reserved seats in Siddha, Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathic courses and Veterinary courses in government and private medical colleges. Similarly, NEET is mandatory for BSc Nursing in Army Nursing Colleges. This exam is conducted every year by the National Examination Agency (NDA).
According to this, the current year's NEET exam was held on 5 May at 4,750 centers in 571 cities across the country. A total of 24 lakh 6,079 students had applied for this exam. Out of which 9 lakh 98,298 students, 13 lakh 34,982 female students and 17 transgenders, a total of 23 lakh 33,297 appeared. Their exam results were released on 4 June.
A total of 13 lakh 16,268 (56.41%) students passed the exam, including 5 lakh 47,036 male students, 7 lakh 69,222 female students and 10 transgender students. 89,426 students passed from Tamil Nadu alone. Along with this, 67 candidates scored full marks, which is the highest ever in this exam. This included 8 people from Tamil Nadu.
Apart from this, NDA had given grace marks to 1,563 students citing lack of time. This matter of giving mercy marks is being heavily criticized. NDA said that the mercy marks given to 1,563 students will be canceled and a re-examination will be conducted for those candidates while the Supreme Court is investigating the matter in this regard. According to this, the re-examination of NEET was conducted on 23 June. Only 813 people took this exam. Its results were released on 30 June.
However, there was a lot of controversy after reports of various irregularities including question paper selling, impersonation, question paper leak etc.
In protest against this, students protested in different parts of the country. In this regard, several petitions were filed in the Supreme Court. These petitions came up for hearing before a bench headed by Chief Justice Chandrachud. After this, there was a demand to cancel the NEET qualifying exam and re-examine it and conduct a complete direct investigation under the supervision of the court. However, the judges have clearly said that they cannot order a re-investigation.
Also, to ensure transparency of the NEET exam, the Supreme Court directed the National Examination Agency to publish city-wise and center-wise results while concealing the identity of the students. The Supreme Court had passed an order to make the exam results public to find out if there are many people in a particular city or exam center who have scored high marks.
NDA has also released the NEET city-wise and exam centre-wise results on July 20. The details can be found at . In case of any doubts, you can contact 011-40759000/ 69227700 and get clarifications, said a press release issued by NDA.
