Kathua, July 29 (HS). The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu inaugurated a two-day public outreach program at village Lakhdi Gujru Nagrota Kathua.
The event was officially inaugurated by Director Handicrafts & Handloom Jammu, Suraj Prakash Rukwal, and was attended by dignitaries from both the departments as well as members of the community.
The event began with a warm welcome from Assistant Director Handicrafts and Handloom Kathua Dr. Rohini. The event aims to educate the local population on the importance of adopting eco-friendly products and lifestyle. The event is designed to encourage the local artisan community to make sustainable products and earn a livelihood by taking advantage of the many government schemes available in this sector.
To support this initiative, various artisans from the region set up live stalls showcasing their vibrant produce in various crafts such as bamboo work, hand embroidery, calico printing, hand painting, hand weaving, etc. These stalls aim to inspire people to integrate these eco-friendly crafts into their daily lives, promoting sustainability over less eco-friendly alternatives.
On this occasion, Darshan Paul Handicraft Training Officer Kathua provided valuable insights and educated the local community about various government schemes which they can avail to achieve their dream of self-employment and self-reliance. The highlight of the event was felicitation of several artisans by Director Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu in recognition of their contribution to the local crafts. The event concluded on a grand note with refreshments being served to all the attendees.
