Subsidy on Electric Vehicles: Central government extended the date of the scheme to increase the sale of electric vehicles

Now subsidy will be available on electric vehicles till 30 September
Subsidy on Electric Vehicles – The central government has extended the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS) till September 30. Along with this, the government has increased the subsidy given under this scheme from Rs 500 crore to Rs 778 crore. The Ministry of Heavy Industry launched this scheme on March 13 to encourage the sale of electric vehicles in the country.
When was the scheme started? Subsidy on Electric Vehicles
This scheme was implemented from 1 April 2024 to 31 July 2024. It provides subsidy on electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and e-rickshaws, but there is no information about the inclusion of electric four-wheelers in it.
The enhanced target
The government has now increased the subsidy target for two-wheelers under EMPS to 5,00,080 from 3.37 lakh earlier. Similarly, the target for three-wheelers has been increased from 41,306 to 60,709 and for large electric three-wheelers from 25,238 to 47,119. However, there is no change in the target for electric rickshaws. The government is providing subsidy at the rate of Rs 5000 per kWh on electric vehicles of different categories.
Earlier there was (FAME) scheme. Subsidy on Electric Vehicles
In 2019, the central government launched the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme to promote electric vehicles. Under this scheme, subsidies were given on electric vehicles so that their number could increase.
Rs 800 crore was allocated to the FAME-1 scheme and Rs 10,000 crore to the FAME-2 scheme in 2022. Later, the financial budget for the FAME-2 scheme was increased from Rs 1,500 crore to Rs 11,500 crore on February 20, 2024. Under the FAME-2 scheme, subsidy for electric vehicles was given till March 31, 2024, after which subsidy is being given under the EMPS scheme.
