IVPA Global Roundtable Conference 2024: 'Vegetable Oils Vision 2030: Opportunities and Challenges'
New Delhi, 18 July 2024. Indian Vegetable Oil Producers Association (IVPA) successfully kicked off the third edition of its signature event, 'IVPA Global Round Table Conference'. The theme of the conference this time is 'Vegetable Oils Vision 2030: Opportunities and Challenges'. The event was attended by around 500 delegates from across the globe. Prof. Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Aayog, YB Datuk Seri Johari Bin Abdul Ghani, Minister of Plantations and Products, Malaysia, Dr. I.R. Kasan MM, Head of Trade Policy Agency, Ministry of Trade, Indonesia, Regional Director South Asia, USSEC Kevin Roepke and Mr. Mariano Behran, Minister of Agriculture, Argentina graced the conference.
On this occasion, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Minister of Plantation and Products, Malaysia was accorded a special welcome. The presence of these esteemed dignitaries underscored the importance of shared mission and collaborative efforts in the region. The conference was also attended by representatives from the Embassies of Argentina, Brazil, Malaysia and Indonesia, Niti Aayog, US Soybean Export Council, RSPO, Apicol, SD Guthrie International, Adani, Patanjali Foods and many other multinational companies in India.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Aayog said, “The IPPA Global Roundtable serves as an important platform for exploring the vast opportunities within the vegetable oil industry, addressing complex challenges and for an open exchange of views.” He further added that there is a significant opportunity for cultivation of oilseeds in the next 7-8 months or more on the fallow lands left after the rice harvest in eastern India. However, policymakers will be challenged to deal with issues such as the GM mustard case, which is currently pending in court, and dynamic duty changes based on global prices to ensure that the sector grows sustainably in the future.
Speaking on the occasion, YB Datuk Seri Johari bin Abdul Ghani, Minister of Plantations and Products, Malaysia said, “The Indian market is an important and growing market for Malaysia and we look forward to exploring opportunities beyond palm oil. Apart from rice and sugar, Malaysia regularly purchases many other commodities from India, highlighting the strong trade ties between the two countries.”
