Ordering food on Zomato, Swiggy is expensive, platform charges will increase
People ordering food online are now going out of pocket. Ordering food on Zomato and Swiggy will be expensive as these brands' platform charges increase. Now you have to pay a little more for each order than before. The change will affect cities like Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi-NCR. Many people in these big cities depend on these utilities for their food. The platform fee is Rs. 5. Both these food platforms were charging a platform fee of Rs.5 per order in these regions, now the companies have decided to increase it by 20% in Mumbai and Delhi-NCR. Henceforth Zomato will charge Rs 6 and Swiggy will charge Rs 7 as platform fee. Currently, customers pay only Rs.5 during checkout. Platform fee is a fixed fee added on top of online GST and restaurant charges. In August 2023, both Zomato and Swiggy launched with a platform fee of Rs 2 per order, which was changed several times. Raising the platform fee by Rs 1 would result in an additional profit of Rs 65 crore for the company in a year. It is not known whether the fare hike will be implemented in all cities. In its report to investors in the last quarter of FY24, Zomato said platform fees will help boost their profit margins. Investors are hopeful that the impact of this decision on Zomato and Swiggy will be reflected in the stocks of the companies as well.
