AIMPLB opposes SC decision on alimony, resolution passed on these issues including UCC in meeting
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board meeting was held in Delhi today. 51 members of AIMPLB attended the meeting. Informing about the meeting, AIMBP spokesperson Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas said that the board passed 3 resolutions. The first is about the Supreme Court's judgment on granting maintenance allowance to Muslim women under Section 125 of the CrPC (now Section 144 of the BNSS). The Muslim Personal Law Board has opposed the Supreme Court's decision. The board says the Supreme Court's ruling is inconsistent with Sharia law. He said Muslims follow Sharia law. He cannot do anything that conflicts with the Shariah. Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas has quoted AIMPLB as saying, “We have realized that India has Hindu Code Bill for Hindus and Sharia Law for Muslims. “In Article 25 of the Constitution, we are given the freedom to live according to our religion, which is our fundamental right.” Referring to the Supreme Court's verdict that 'SC's decision will increase women's problems', the spokesperson of the Muslim Personal Board said that the Supreme Court has given its decision in the 'welfare of women'. This judgment of the court is believed to create more problems for women. He argued that if the man had to pay maintenance for life even after the divorce, he would never divorce and the woman would have to suffer for the rest of her life from the strain of the relationship. The Executive Committee of the Muslim Personal Law Board has authorized the Board to consult with the Law Committee and work out how to withdraw this decision, he said. Challenging Uttarakhand's UCC A proposal was brought in the AIMPLB meeting regarding the UCC implemented in Uttarakhand. Board's spokesperson says UCC destroys India's diversity He has said that he will challenge Uttarakhand UCC very soon. The Muslim Personal Law Board says if the central or state governments move in this direction with regard to the UCC, it should be avoided. Apart from this, the All India Muslim Personal Board meeting has also passed a resolution regarding waqf property. AIMPLB says that it is about the Waqf Board's property and if they try to repeal the Waqf Act, we will oppose it. Apart from this, the Muslim Personal Law Board has also reacted to the Lok Sabha election results. A spokesman for the board said that it was clear from the 2024 elections that people had voted against the hate agenda and hence the BJP could not touch the majority. He said gang murders are still taking place in the country. Almost a dozen cases have come to light in the past few days, tarnishing the country's reputation. The government should take action and set an example for this. Concerned about the Worship Act, the Muslim Personal Law Board has appealed to the Supreme Court asking places of worship to implement the Act effectively. The Personal Law Board says that the Places of Worship Act was framed before the Babri Masjid demolition and that the Babri Masjid was the last controversy related to the Act. We disagreed with the Babri Masjid decision but the decision went against us. Now an issue is being raised regarding many mosques. AIMPLB said, “We request the Supreme Court to look into all the ongoing controversies regarding the Places of Worship Act.”
