Video of Air Force's laser bomb attack on Tiger Hill during Kargil war released

A ground attack from the lower region on the Pakistani soldiers who had occupied Tiger Hill would cause heavy damage. Therefore, it was decided to attack with the Air Force fighter planes. It was decided to drop laser bombs on the Pakistani army camp from Mirage 2000 aircraft. On 27 June 1999, at around 2 am, the Mirage fighter jets of the Indian Air Force carried out this precise attack. After this, on 30 June, Mirage aircraft attacked at night in Mundo Talo, Moskosh Valley area and destroyed the Pakistani army camps.

Subsequently, Indian Army ground forces advanced and captured Tiger Hill on 3 July 1999. Video footage of the laser bomb attack has now been released for the first time. The attack was conducted by then Air Force pilots Wing Commander Raghunath Nambiar and Squadron Leader Patnaik. They later retired as Air Marshals and served as the heads of the Air Force's Eastern and Western Command Centres.
Air Marshal Information: Air Marshal Patnaik (Retd) said in an interview about the attack, we realised that the ground troops could move there easily only after we destroyed the Pakistani army camp on the top of Tiger Hill in the Kargil area. So we tried to attack on 26 June 1999. But the weather was not favorable. So at 2 am the next morning we successfully carried out this attack on Tiger Hill.
Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar (Retd), the pilot travelling with him in the Mirage 2000 aircraft, said, “I started the laser bomb operation from an altitude of 28 km from the Pakistan Army camp in Tiger Hills. We calculated the target distance from the Lightning Pod. As soon as I reached near the Pakistan Army camp, I pressed the laser bomb button.

600 kg laser bomb: A 600 kg laser bomb was dropped from the plane. Those last 30 seconds were very tense. When we heard the sound of the bomb hitting the target accurately, we were very happy and we were happy to announce the success to the Air Force through a radio call, he said. It is worth noting that the laser bombs and equipment used in the Mirage 2000 fighter jet are Israeli made.
