Dyogarh: With 10 days left for the Shravani Mela, the preparations of many departments on the Kanwariya route are still half-way through.
Deogarh: Shravani Mela is 10 days away, but preparations are not even 25 per cent complete on the Kanwaria route in Jharkhand, as in Bihar. The preparatory works of several sectors on the Kanwaria road from Duma to Kizuria are still half-way completed. The functioning of the drinking water and sanitation sector is very poor. Till now all the toilets of Kanwaria route are not fully renovated. The hand pumps installed along Kanwaria Road are not functional. Many hand pumps do not have heads installed, while not all toilets even have doors installed. Not cleaning around the toilet. Now arrangements are underway to expedite all arrangements in 10 days. Even the power department is yet to complete the work of repairing power lines on the Kanwaria route. At many places, there is a risk of danger due to hanging wires on Kanwaria track. Every year, cleaning and painting of passenger shed and administrative building constructed on Kanwaria Road was done by Rural Development Special Unit, but this year the cleaning work of passenger shed and administrative buildings was not started. Due to administrative reasons, the temporary OP of the Police Department is to be opened. Cows and buffaloes are tied in many passenger sheds, while many passenger sheds are occupied by people from nearby areas. The chairs placed on the side of the Kanwaria path for the Kanwarias to sit on are also broken. Dirt is everywhere on the chairs. Ganges sand dredging is also not yet started from road construction department. Gangetic sand is stored at various places. According to the road construction department, the work of removing the mud from the road and installing GSP is in progress, after which sand will be poured. However, many potholes in Kanwaria area are still unfilled. The high mast at the tollgate on the Kanwaria route is also set up above the pandal, making it impossible for Kanwariyars to use it. Along with this, the work of installing electric lights on Kanwaria route has not been started by the power board yet. However, cleaning and other arrangements have been started in the spiritual hall built under the Prasad Yojana scheme. Renovation of toilets around Duma is underway from Ph.D. Public Works Department says: Deogarh Public Works Executive Engineer MK Mahato said: There are large potholes in many places on the Kanwaria route and GSP is being filled with soil. Due to earlier sand mining, sand stockpiles are kept at various places, there is danger of sand mining in rains, due to the movement of vehicles, sand is wasted and sand is mined. The work will start a week before the inauguration of Shravani Mela. In another week, sand will be brought to a length of 9 km.
