The University Grants Commission (UGC) has come up with a new policy on fee refunds after complaints from students and parents. The fee refund policy 2024 has been made more stringent than the previous policy. According to information available to TV9 Bharatvarsha, if the college does not refund any student's fees on time, the accreditation of the concerned college may also be revoked. Along with this, arrangements have been made ranging from stopping the grant of the college to adding it to the list of defaulters. Union Education Ministry Secretary Manish Joshi has issued a notification in this regard. In this notification, those rules and regulations are quoted and mention is made regarding cancellation of recognition of the college in case of non-payment of fees. This rule also applies to other colleges including engineering, medicine. What is the new policy? UGC has prepared strict framework on college management in case of non-refund of fees. It includes provisions ranging from withdrawal of permission for online and open and distance education, withdrawal of autonomous institution status, inclusion of their names in the list of defaulters and making public. According to Manish Joshi's notification, application should be made within the stipulated time and for this, students or parents should also apply within the limits of the rules. For example, there is a certain time limit to refund the payment. In such a situation, the student or parent should apply within this deadline so that their money can be repaid on time. Under what circumstances is the fee refunded? UGC has received complaints from many students and parents that it has been found many times in the higher education system that if a student withdraws his name from the college due to unavoidable reasons, the college has to refund the fee. It didn't happen according to the rules. The number of students and parents making complaints continued to increase. What is the refund amount? According to Manish Joshi notification, 100 percent fee will be refunded if you leave the seat before 15 days or the last date of admission is announced. In addition, 90 percent of the fee will be refunded within 15 days from the notification of last date of admission. 80% of admission will be withdrawn after 15 days of notification of last date of admission.
