Bihar Tourism: Mahavir Swami, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, was born in 599 BC on the Thrayodasi tithi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. According to the calendar, Mahavir was born on Monday, March 27, 598 BC, the morning of Uttara Balguni Nakshatra, to Maharaj Sri Siddhartha of the Lichavi dynasty and Mata Trishila Devi, the Kananyaka king of Vaishali in the state of Bihar. The place is now located in Rajla village under Hadgat panchayat of Khaira block of Jamui district. Mahavira is the 24th Tirthankara in the tradition of Adinath, the founder of Jainism. His life span is considered to be from 511 to 527 BC. He left home at the age of thirty and acquired Kaivalya knowledge through severe penance. By defining the philosophy initiated by Parshvanatha, Mahavir gave a permanent foundation to Jain philosophy. A grand temple of Mahavir is now built at Kundgram in Jamui district. The 26-hundred-year-old idol of Mahavir installed in this temple was stolen on November 27, 2015. The faith of Jain followers not only in India but all over the world was deeply hurt. After several attempts, the statue was recovered on 6 December 2015. After this, Mahavira's statue was kept at Lachuat for 3 years and a big temple was built here. Jain devotees from places like Ahmedabad and Surat in Gujarat come here every year. Apart from this, thousands of Jain devotees from India and abroad including Mumbai, Nagpur, Kolkata, Australia come here to have darshan of their deity. Located in the middle of forest area, this temple is built on top of a hill in the middle of Kiteshwar forest area. Built amidst thick forests, this temple is set up with supernatural beauty. One can sit here and enjoy peace as well as religion, which is why Jainism attracts not only aspirants but also others. People come here from far and wide to have darshan of Mahaveer.
