The federal minister who gave the beef permit! Mahua Moitra accused Shantanu Thakur
Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra from West Bengal's Krishna Nagar constituency has leveled serious allegations against Union Minister Shantanu Thakur. A pass issued by Shantanu Thakur in which the BSF was asked to allow the pass holder to transport beef. The pass has created a stir in Bengali politics. In a post on Mahua Moitra social media site X, BJP minister Shantanu Thakur had said that he would allow smugglers to transport beef to Bangladesh through his official letterhead. Shantanu Thakur has denied these allegations. After his first tweet, Moitra retweeted another tweet and wrote, “If they say this is standard practice, BSF is lying, then why is the minister charging ₹200 per slip from beef transporters.” Union Minister prints forms on official letterhead issuing @BSF_India 85BN passes to smugglers on Indo-Bengal border. Any action @HMOIndia ? — Mahua Moitra (@MahuaMoitra) July 8, 2024 What did the BJP minister say? Shantanu Thakur told news agency PTI, “Why should a person smuggle three kilos of beef? Isn't that ridiculous? She knows that such passes are issued for the convenience of people in border areas. He has deliberately concealed this matter. BSF sources said such slips are issued to common people by panchayats in border areas to carry goods. However, under no circumstances can goods be transported to Bangladesh through these passes.
