Petitions (more than 30) related to the controversial medical entrance exam NEET-UG 2024 were heard in the Supreme Court on Monday. Along with malpractices in the examination, petitions giving instructions to hold the examination afresh are also included in it. Besides, a separate petition of more than 50 candidates from Gujarat was also heard. In this, a request has been made to order the central government and NDA to stop the cancellation of the examination. Now the next hearing in this case will be held on Thursday. During the hearing, the court told the government and the examination conducting agency (NDA) that we want to know the number of people who benefited from the question paper leak. Also inform what action has been taken against them. It is clear that the question paper has been leaked. What will the government do to identify the beneficiaries of the paper leak? We should not deny what happened. The Chief Justice has said that the sanctity of the examination has been affected. If children get the paper on the exam day, it means that the paper is leaked locally. If it is not known how many students are stuck, re-examination should be ordered. The Inquiry Officer shall submit a status report on these aspects. A bench comprising Chief Justice Chandrachud, Justices JP Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra said that if the paper leaks through telegraph, WhatsApp and electronic means, it will spread like wildfire. It is clear that the question paper is leaked. If the paper is shared through social media, a re-examination should be ordered. The Chief Justice asked what kind of arrangements were in place to prevent incidents like paper leaks in future. What technology is available to tackle cybercrime? What do we mean by data analysis? What can be done to prevent paper leaks in the future? Can a multi-disciplinary committee be formed? The CJI said, 'The Center and the NTA should inform whether the cyber forensics unit or the government can use any data analytics to identify suspicious cases. A structure can be created to separate the tainted students from the untainted ones. Procedures to be followed including re-selection and counseling process will be discussed after the examination. A policy decision needs to be made as to whether a different approach is needed to reach more beneficiaries of leech. The Chief Justice said that the beneficiaries of the paper leak should be found through intelligence, law and process. This is the only way'.
