Is Meena's resignation a revolt against Bajlanal? Should the BJP's performance deteriorate in the by-elections?
The Bhajanlal Sharma-led BJP government in Rajasthan, which was formed 6 months ago, has suffered a major setback. Kirori Lal Meena may have resigned from the ministerial post due to defeat in 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but it is seen as a political rebellion against Chief Minister Bhajanlal. The Chief Minister has not yet accepted the resignation. Meena has declared that she has no desire for any position in the government or organization. Kirori Lal Meena resigned as minister on June 25, but a public announcement was made as soon as the assembly session began. In such a situation, should Meena's displeasure spoil the BJP's political game in the assembly by-elections? During the Lok Sabha elections, Kirori Lal had openly promised that the BJP would win all seven parliamentary constituencies in Meena, East Rajasthan and Meena-dominated areas, and that if it lost even one seat, it would resign as a minister. In 2024, the BJP lost four seats – Dausa, Tonk Sawai Madhopur, Bharatpur and Karauli-Dholpur and managed to win only Kota, Jaipur Rural and Bhilwara constituencies. Thus, Kirori Lal Meena resigned as Minister as per his promise. Since the 2024 election defeat in Rajasthan, Meena still resigned from the post of minister, giving a big blow to the BJP. How big is Meena's status in politics? Kirori Lal Meena was the most powerful minister in the state after Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Deputy Chief Ministers Diya Kumari and Premchandra Bhairwa. A three-time MP and a sixth-time MLA, Meena has earned political stature in her own right, having held four ministerial posts in the Rajasthan government. From this alone his political stature can be gauged and his name appears among the BJP leaders who opened maximum front against the Khelat government. Why Kirori Lal Meena is called a rebel leader? Only six months had passed since the formation of Bhajan Lal's government, but Girori Lal Meena was already having political conflicts with many of his own leaders. Meena, who questioned the distribution of tickets in the Lok Sabha elections, has now resigned from the ministerial post after the election results and expressed her rebellious stance. If he was not angry with Bhajanlal, why did he resign in the middle of the assembly session and create tension for the chief minister? The Congress, which has been attacking the Bhajan Lal government since the Lok Sabha election results, has now got an opportunity with Meena's resignation. With five MLAs elected as MPs in the Lok Sabha elections, Rajasthan's five assembly constituencies are vacant and by-elections are due. Kirori Lal Meena's resignation from Bhajanlal's cabinet could upset BJP's political equation in the by-elections. Out of the five by-elections, three seats namely Shaurasi, Deoli and Dausa are tribal-influenced constituencies. Congress's Harish Meena is from Donk Sawai Madhopur constituency and Kirori Lal Meena is the MLA from here. Won't Meena's resignation in the midst of by-elections to five assembly constituencies put the BJP in trouble? BJP tries to pacify Meena, Gironi Lal Meena is not one of the sit-at-home leaders and he is not quiet. Now when there is no ministerial protocol, he is completely free to raise his voice and protest, as he did during the Khelat government. However, efforts are being made in the BJP to pacify Kirori Lal Meena and keep him as a minister. With this in mind, BJP state president CP Joshi said that Agriculture Minister Kirori Lal is happy to continue to impart the benefits of his experience in power. Talks have also been held with the Chief Minister. Our effort is that he should be a minister. Will Meena's resignation be accepted? Meena's resignation is difficult to accept as by-elections are being held for five assembly constituencies. The political math behind this is that Kirori Lal Meena is the biggest leader from the Meena community and the share of Meena votes in the by-election is crucial. After the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP does not want to take any political risk in the by-elections. That is why the BJP wants to keep him with them for the time being and thus Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has yet to accept his resignation.
