Remove ministers, set up a board… Why is the NDA government in danger in Puducherry after the elections?

While the BJP is busy retracing its post-Lok Sabha election defeat, the MLAs' revolt in Puducherry union territory has added to the party's tensions. 7 BJP and independent MLAs have fielded against the Rangasamy government in Puducherry. Kalapettai MLA PM Kalyanasundaram and Nelithop MLA Jankumar are in front of the angry MLAs. The angry MLAs have conveyed their views from the Governor to BJP National President JP Nadda. These MLAs say that if a solution is not found soon, there may be problems for the government and the party in the future. Why MLAs are angry in Puducherry, 3 reasons 1. Request to give place in the cabinet, 6 ministers including Chief Minister can be made in Puducherry. At present 4 ministers from AINR Congress quota and 2 ministers from BJP quota are in power. Namachivayam Krih and AK Sai Shravan Kumar are Urban Development Ministers from BJP quota. The buzz is about Home Minister Namachivayam. Angry MLAs claim that in the recent Lok Sabha elections, Namachivayam, who contested from the Puducherry Lok Sabha seat, lost by a margin of 1.36 lakh votes. He has no right to remain in the cabinet in such condition. These MLAs say that two ministers should be removed and two new faces in the government so that there is a rotational system of power. The MLAs argue that the largest party, the NR Congress, recently dropped C Priyanka and inducted PR Thirumurugan into the cabinet in a rotational manner. 2. Allegations of corruption and angry MLAs raising the issue of corruption within the government. The MLAs say that if the high-level committee does not take a decision on this now, the problems may escalate in the 2026 elections. Speaking to local English daily The New Indian Express, two government ministers have been booked for taking commissions in opening restaurants near schools, colleges and religious institutions, according to rebel independent MLA B Anglon, allegedly for corruption in the garbage. There is an allegation of bribery. If these are not resolved in time, the election will be defeated. Corruption was a major issue in the 2021 assembly elections in Puducherry due to which the NDA returned to power. Then the BJP promised to eradicate corruption in the state. 3. Recruitment issue in Board-Corporation When it came to power in Puducherry in 2021, NDA also sought support from 6 independent MLAs. In return, these MLAs were promised regularization in the board and the corporation. Even after 3 years, the Board-Corporation has not been formed yet. This is also the reason for MLAs' agitation. There are 12 Board-Corporations under Puducherry Government. Its leader gets the rank of minister. In some board-corporations there is also a provision for vice-chairmanship. Angry MLAs say it could accommodate at least 20 people, but the government's attitude has stalled it. Assembly equation in Puducherry: The union territory of Puducherry has a total of 30 assembly constituencies in which a minimum of 16 seats is required to form a government. The All India NR Congress is the largest party in the Assembly with a total of 10 MLAs. BJP has 6 seats here. DMK and Congress are in alliance as opposition parties. In this DMK has 6 seats and Congress 2 seats. The assembly also has 6 independent MLAs. Apart from these numbers there is also a tradition of nominating candidates in the Puducherry Assembly. Under this, 3 MLAs have been appointed in the assembly. Only if there is a major change in the current figures, the NDA government may be at risk here. Because Congress and DMK are 8 steps away from majority.
