Defeat is not acceptable… French President Macron plays a new trick to stay in power | France President Macron's party
After the first round of voting in France, the right-wing party National Rally has taken the lead. This is the first time since the Second World War that a right-wing party has been liked so much by the people of France. The National Rally Party has come first with 33.1% votes. The leftist Alliance has got 28% votes and French President Macron’s party has come third with 20.7% votes. But since no party got 50% votes in the first round, this election has gone into the second round.
The second round of voting is scheduled for Sunday, July 7, and preparations are already underway to stop right-wing candidates. Le Pen’s right-wing party, the National Rally, supports anti-immigrant and Islamophobic policies. Macron’s centrist party and the New Popular Front (NFP), an organization of ten left parties, have come together to stop the National Rally.
On Tuesday, before the last date for run-off registration, many candidates from the centrist and left parties withdrew their names. This has happened to put an end to the victory of the right-wing party.

Will the alliance stop the right wing?
After his party’s defeat in the European elections, Macron had announced to hold parliamentary elections in June. But his gamble has backfired on him and after the European Union elections, the right-wing party National Rally has overtaken him in the French parliamentary elections as well. National Rally chief Le Pen said on Tuesday that even if the party does not get an absolute majority, they will still try to form the government. Let us tell you that 289 seats are required for an absolute majority in France’s 577-seat National Assembly.

Macron’s centrist party and the leftist New Popular Front are hoping that they will come together to stop the right wing party. To stop the National Rally from coming to power, President Macron held a meeting with ministers at the Elysee Palace on Tuesday. Leaders of leftist parties also attended this meeting. LFI leader Francois Ruffin said after the meeting that our only goal is to stop the National Rally from getting an absolute majority and we are united on this. After the alliance of the centrist party and the leftist parties, now only two candidates will face each other in the run-off round for the seats where the election was triangular.
How the government works in France
France has a two-tier government system. Here the head of the government is the Prime Minister. The head of the country is the President. Both the President and the Prime Minister are directly elected by the people. The power and responsibility of both are divided. In this parliamentary election, the party or coalition that gets more than 50 percent seats will form the government and its leader will be made the President or PM. The important decisions of the country are taken by both the President and the Prime Minister together.
