RBI: People still have Rs 7,581 crore worth of Rs 2000 notes

RBI: RBI on Monday announced that 97.87 per cent of Rs 2,000 notes have been returned to banks so far. At present, Rs 7,581 crore worth of notes have been withdrawn from circulation. RBI first announced demonetisation of Rs 2000 notes on 19 May 2023. The total value of these currency notes in circulation on that date was Rs 3.56 lakh crore, which has now come down to Rs 7,581 crore by June 28, 2024. RBI has announced in a press release that 97.87% of Rs 2000 notes have been returned to banks by June 28, 2024. Time has been given till October 7, 2023 to deposit or exchange Rs 2000 notes in all bank branches across the country. From May 19, 2023, there is an option to exchange Rs.2000 notes at 19 RBI offices. Individuals and companies can continue to deposit Rs 2000 notes into their bank accounts at RBI issuing offices from October 9, 2023. They can send to any post office in the country. Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, 19 offices of RBI where bank notes can be deposited or exchanged.
