The Supreme Court has directed the Delhi government to discuss ways to increase the capital's green space
The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Delhi government and civic agencies to convene and discuss detailed measures to increase Delhi's green space. Also, people are exposed to intense heat as the trees are hidden. A vacation bench comprising Justice Abhay S Ogha and Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan issued these orders to the Delhi government. The bench said the court expected the forest department and the timber commission to monitor illegal tree clearing in Delhi. Court issues notices to Delhi Government, Forest and Environment Department, Timber Commission, MCD and DDA considering illegal and high level felling of trees. 'Closing of trees can't be taken lightly', Supreme Court vacation bench said it will convene a meeting of officials in the presence of the Forest Secretary and an expert committee appointed to discuss detailed measures to increase green cover in the national capital, Delhi. Noting that, the Supreme Court asked the Deputy Chairman of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for a clear answer. Trees were cut in the hilly area. Also, a contempt case was filed in the Supreme Court against TDA Vice-President Subhashish Panda for planting 100 trees for allowing large-scale felling of trees in Satbari area of Southern Hills to build a road from Chattarpur to South Asian University. The bench expressed its displeasure over the “false” affidavit filed by the vice president and the presentation of “wrong facts” before the court.
