Union Home Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amit Shah again targeted the Congress for imposing Emergency in the country. Shah on Tuesday targeted the main opposition Congress, saying the opposition has violated the spirit of the Constitution several times to keep a particular family in power. Also, during the Emergency, Indira Gandhi committed cruel atrocities on the people of the country. On the 49th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency in the country, Amit Shah targeted Congress president Rahul Gandhi and called him the crown prince of the party. Emergency was declared during the night between 25th and 26th June 1975 during the regime of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and this emergency remained in force till 21st March 1977 (21 months). The then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed declared Emergency under Article 352 of the Constitution on the orders of Indira Gandhi.
