According to the ministry, the total area of ​​Bihar's two wetlands at the Ramsar site is 544.37 hectares. With this, the total area of ​​Ramsar sites in the country has now increased to 13.32 lakh hectares. What is a wetland? Conservation of these two wetlands of Bihar will help prevent increasing desertification in the country, says the Ministry of Forests and Environment. A wetland is a wet land where water stagnates during rains. Also, many species of birds are found in the area. It is called saur in the vernacular of Bihar. In the last few years, many such sanctuaries have been added to the Ramsar site in the country. In this case, UNESCO provides assistance for their conservation. What is a Ramsar site A Ramsar site is a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, which was established by UNESCO in 1971 and named after the Ramsar city of Iran, which signed the convention that year among all countries. A Ramsar site is recognized as a wetland in the world. It is of international importance. These include such wetlands, which are home to a large number of waterfowl. International support is also provided for any wetland to be included in the Ramsar site. It is also designated as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International. This is the main reason why Nagi Bird Sanctuary has been declared as an Important Bird Area.
