Karthik Aryan's trainer reveals the secret behind his becoming a champion of the alley
Karthik Aaryan's Sandhu Champion is the most anticipated movie of the year. The film will hit theaters on June 14. Directed by Kabir Khan, the film is a biopic of Muralikant Bedkar, India's first Paralympic gold medalist. Karthik calls the film the most challenging film of his career as his body transformation for the character is amazing as his trainer and former national level boxer Tridev Pandey spoke to Urmila Khori about his stunning transformation. Dialogue Highlights: Karthik shedding 18 kgs and transforming the actor into a boxer was the biggest challenge of the film. Not only the difficulties, Karthik also learned boxing in the style of Muralikant Petkar. Karthik's entire body transformation and learning boxing took 14 months. At that time, Karthik was shooting for Satya Prem Ki Katha, so he was also giving time to it. There was also travel, and if you skip two months for travel, it's a complete process for 12 months. In this, Karthik reduced his body weight by 18 kg and reduced his body fat from 37 to 7. We did cardio and boxing every morning and worked out in the evening. The exercise schedule ranged from one hour to one and a quarter hours. Karthi suffered several injuries during the shooting of this film, shoulder and heel injuries added to the problems. Despite the injuries, Karthik still needs to train. Have to exercise and shoot. Usually an athlete should train in the morning. Rest in the afternoon, then training in the evening, but here the matter is completely different. Karthik was exercising like an athlete, but he didn't live an athletic life as he would train in the morning and then go out for shoots. An actor may have to shoot several times during the day and sometimes at night. We had to practice in the afternoon. Many times Karthi didn't get even 8 hours of sleep but he had to continue his training, it's not a film where you build your body first, the shooting of this film was going on and the role changed. Similar changes should be made in his body. Karthik started talking about the diet with 2200 calories. We didn't want to tire Karthik early on. As I said earlier, Karthik had both works going on. Along with shooting and training, he also had other work. From 2200 every 15 days we cut 100 calories. Our special attention was paid to what should be the amount of protein and carbohydrates. Throughout the year, our diet has been changing, some less, some more in the last four months, our focus has completely shifted to a protein diet. This time, we tried to give Karthik a complete protein diet. Apart from that, we also gave him a protein shake to ensure that he was getting enough protein so he didn't eat it. Director Kabir Khan fed Karthik his favorite sweets during the last day of the film's shoot. In the trailer, Karthik can be seen running in a scene where all the muscles of his body are visible, during the 2nd day of shooting for the particular scene, Karthik reduced the amount of water he drank and removed salt from his diet. The body is dehydrated and the muscles are clearly visible on the screen. Karthik was initially unable to do pushups. I want to tell you that when we started training, he didn't even do pushups. This was because he had finished shooting for his film Freddy and his body weight at that time was 90 kg and his physical training had stopped for a long time. When we started for Sandhu, he couldn't do push ups. Not even pulling happened. I told him that if you're a boxer, it's important to push up 50 percent of your body weight. If your body weight is 80 kg, you can push up with 40 kg on your back. Karthik did this with full commitment. He has worked hard to do push ups with 40 kg on his back. He did push ups with 50 kg on his back, Karthik was unable to pull only one kg, but then he did pull ups with 27 kg. Karthik was unable to develop abs and in my opinion 99% of people are unable to develop abs which is the most difficult part of the body to develop. That low abs should be built. After some hard work the upper stomach becomes visible, but to get a lower stomach requires penance. Karthik once got frustrated while doing Lower Abyss and said, brother, it will happen or not, but luckily it took a little more time, but we did it. Karthik has been doing penance. If it has to be done, it has to be done. The shift was from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Despite being hectic, I had to travel for 1 hour after exercising for 1 hour through the night and after giving my body a rest in the morning to exercise in the afternoon. I was with Karthik throughout the shooting of Sandhu Champion. He went with him to all places like Pune, Vai, Mahabaleshwar. The most difficult shooting took place at Goregaon Studios. Where a set of boxing rings is installed. There followed Karthik's fight scenes. And that scene is shot in great detail with 5 good boxers of world class. Each fight scene is given in one and a half to two minutes, not ten seconds. During the shooting of this fight scene, Karthik injured his right shoulder, making it very challenging to project power and build momentum. That shooting phase was very tough for us, but Karthik did not lose heart. I have been in the industry for the past ten years. I have never seen a dedication like Karthik, this guy doesn't take any junk or drugs to build his body. Had anyone else been in Karthik's place, he could have done anything. I won't take names but actors often take shortcuts to build their bodies but Karthik doesn't take any shortcuts. I highly respect this decision of Karthik who is a national level boxer. I would also call this my greatest achievement. And for the industry this guy has built such a good body without any drugs or dopes.
