Tamil Nadu's Vellore Lok Sabha constituency has been DMK's stronghold. Even in the 2024 general elections, DMK MP Kathir Anand retained this seat. Earlier, Kathir Anand won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He got 5,68,692 votes in this Lok Sabha election. He has defeated the BJP candidate A.C. Shanmugan who contested against him by a margin of 2 lakh 15 thousand votes. A.C. Shanmugan secured a total of 3,52,990 votes. AIADMK was the third team here. AIADMK's S. Pasupathi got 117682 votes. Vellore also hit the headlines as filmmaker Mansoor Ali Khan contested the election as an independent. However, he got only 2804 votes. Kathir Anand is considered as the brightest young leader of Tamil Nadu. He was born on January 19, 1975. He has two children and his wife name is Sangeeta Kathirananda. He is hereditary politics. His father Durai Murugan was a powerful leader of Tamil Nadu. Duraimurugan is DMK's general secretary and in-charge of water resources department. Kathir Anand was also a member of the 17th Lok Sabha. He was elected MP for the first time this year. Kathir Anand has been making headlines for his controversial statements. His comment regarding women in an election program has caused a great controversy. Political attacks started on him. He mocked the 1000 rupees given to women by the government. BJP strongly condemned his comment. This report became a debate in the election as well. A tax evasion complaint has also been filed against Kathir Anand. In the complaint against him, it was stated that he did not file the return for the year 2013-14. The matter also went to court, after which he was reprimanded by the court. In November 2023, the Enforcement Directorate issued a notice to him in the 2019 case. Before the 2019 elections, the Income Tax department raided his hideout and seized Rs 11.48 crore.
