Earthquake of 5.9 magnitude hits Ishikawa province of Japan, bullet trains temporarily halted

Tokyo. Strong tremors of earthquake were felt in the Noto Peninsula region of Ishikawa province of Japan at 6:31 am on Monday. Japan’s Meteorological Agency has said that the intensity of the earthquake was recorded at 5.9 on the Richter scale. People came out of their homes in fear due to the earthquake. Apart from Noto city, Nanao and Anamizu city, tremors of earthquake were also felt in some parts of Niigata province. So far, the authorities have not confirmed any threat of tsunami. Japan’s leading newspaper The Japan Times has discussed this in detail in its report. The report quoted the Meteorological Agency as saying that a powerful earthquake had also occurred five months ago. There was heavy damage then. According to the agency, Wajima and Suzu cities near the northern tip of the Noto Peninsula have been badly affected by today’s earthquake. According to Tokyo Electric Power, there has been no impact on the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant located in Kashiwazaki city and Kariwa village in Niigata province. East Japan Railway Co. said Joetsu and Hokuriku Shinkansen bullet train services were temporarily halted due to power outages. The quake prompted special early warning alerts on smartphones in the remote Kanto region. Strong tremors were felt in some places, including Niigata, Fukushima and Toyama prefectures.
