Dairying provided new opportunities for self-employment in Purnia and industries were encouraged.
Purnia News: In recent years, farmers' increasing interest in dairy production has opened many new opportunities for self-employment in Purnia. This is the reason why dairy related industries are also started in the district. Administrative efforts are also continuously being made to make the district self-sufficient in milk production. Due to this, not only the production of milk has increased here, but the supply of milk has also started in line with the consumption. This is the reason why dairy business today is proving to be profitable beyond fulfilling family needs. As a result milk business in Purnia went from pahangi to bicycles, bikes and big tankers. On the other hand, animal genetic modification brought about revolutionary changes in milk production. It became an industry with large dairies. Administrative initiatives in the district also gave impetus to milk production and milk business through groups increased to a large extent. DMK has taken the initiative to make the district self-sufficient in milk production and in last year's meeting, District Collector Kundan Kumar gave a mega campaign. The format of the Dairy Network Scheme comprising COMPET, Agriculture Department, Animal Husbandry Department and Cow, Development Department was advised to work together to boost the dairy sector. Instruction was also given with emphasis on breeding and fodder production. In this direction, resources and credit facilities are made available to interested livestock farmers as per government norms. The establishment of Kosi Dairy increased the business. Additionally, it has succeeded in winning the trust of ordinary consumers. Thanks to this, not only the number of consumers but also the number of groups increased. Presently 900 milk collection center groups are registered under Kosi Milk Scheme Purnia Division. Of these, 440 societies are registered in Purnia, 202 in Katihar, 32 in Kishanganj and 135 in Araria. In terms of milk production, about 70 thousand liters of milk is procured daily from Purnia, 25 thousand liters from Katihar, 1500 liters from Kishanganj and 15 thousand liters from Araria. Processing, cooling and packaging operations take place here. Apart from these four districts, milk from this dairy is transported to Islampur and Siliguri in West Bengal. 1 lakh 25 thousand liters of milk is consumed daily from the Purnia center and residents of Purnia drink half of the total production. Average milk consumption in these districts is 55,000 to 60,000 liters, 23,000 liters in Kadigahar, 12,000 liters in Kishanganj and 35,000 liters in Araria. According to the Centre, the demand here is met 100 per cent, whereas, in case of shortage, milk has to be procured from Parayuni and Ara dairies. He said that in the beginning milk production will decrease during summer and due to increasing side of milk production, livestock farmers have become aware and now there will be no shortage of milk in any season. Kosi Dairy Project Purnia conducts awareness programs among farmers throughout the year. They have a team of veterinarians under their care. There are hundreds of small and big dairies in the district which are running independently without any affiliation. The milk produced by them is distributed to ordinary households through small and large containers. One of these names comes from Indira Chaurasia, who left her established IT business in Delhi to start dairy operations and gradually added value to milk by manufacturing many of its products and selling them to the city dwellers today. Indira Chaurasia says that to make any business more profitable, there is a need to work on every aspect related to it. One name that comes into this is value addition. Due to our agricultural background, we have gradually integrated every area related to milk with it. Today, along with milk production, many dairy products, vermicomposting, organic farming, etc. are reaping the benefits.
