Modi government has reshaped the budget in the last decade: Sitharaman

New Delhi, May 27 (Tezzbuzz). Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday said that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has transformed the Union Budget from a record of expenditure to a strategic blueprint for equitable development in the last 10 years. She said that we make judicious and efficient use of every rupee collected from our taxpayers, giving them a transparent picture of public finances.
Listing her achievements in a statement released on X-post, Sitharaman said that this is in stark contrast to the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's repeated practice of off-budget borrowing and issuing 'oil bonds' and hiding the deficit, which to some extent shifted the fiscal burden to future generations. Under the UPA, standard fiscal practices were regularly changed to make budget figures look favourable.
Sitharaman said that our government has transformed the Union Budget from a mere record of expenditure to a strategic blueprint for equitable development. We use every rupee collected from our taxpayers judiciously and correctly… present a transparent picture of public finances. She said that the Central Government operates 108 Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) through the State and Union Territory Governments, the budget of which is about Rs 5.01 lakh crore for the financial year 2024-25. It was Rs 4.76 lakh crore for the financial year 2023-24.
The Finance Minister said that our Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to using cutting edge technology, increasing transparency and carrying forward the ongoing reforms to lay a strong foundation of a developed India. Along with this, we will continue to maximize the value and impact of the hard earned money of the taxpayers, ensuring that it is used to the best possible extent for the benefit of all.
