Indore. The month of Jyestha is dedicated to Lord Surya, Shani Dev, Varun Dev, God of Water and Hanuman. It is believed that water donation done in this month provides auspicious results for many births. This year Jyestha month has started from Friday. It will last till 23 June.
In this month, there will be fasts and festivals like Shani Jayanti, Vat Savitri, Bada Mangal and Ganga Dussehra. Ganga Dussehra will be celebrated on 16th June. Ganga Dussehra is also known as Gangavtaran, which means descent of Ganga. On the day of Ganga Dussehra, bathing in Ganga, Narmada and other holy rivers and doing charity is considered extremely auspicious. It is believed that on this day Goddess Ganga herself comes to meet Narmadaji. Narad Jayanti was on 24th May. Naradji was incarnated on the Pratipada date of Krishna Paksha of Jyeshtha month. Nautapa will also be observed in this month. According to Sanatan belief, water pot, pitcher, umbrella and fan are donated in the month of Vaishakh.
What to do and what not to do in the month of Jyeshtha
According to Sanatan belief, donating in the month of Jyeshtha is considered a pious deed. Giving water to passersby in summer brings blessings of gods and ancestors. Water is kept for animals and birds. Acharya Rohit Dubey said that copper and sesame should be donated in the month of Jyeshtha. Donating these things in this month brings freedom from Mangal Dosha. Consuming Sattu in the month of Jyeshtha is beneficial for health. One should not sleep during the day in the month of Jyeshtha, otherwise the person may have to face illness. Fried foods should not be consumed, it causes stomach related problems. Water should be used judiciously in the month of Jyeshtha.
Rituals will be held on the sixth day on Shani Jayanti
Shani Jayanti will be celebrated on June 6. According to mythological beliefs, Lord Shani Dev was born on the new moon day of Jyeshtha month. On this day, events will be organized at various places in the city.
Worship by keeping Vat Savitri fast
Vat Savitri Vrat will be observed on 6th June. It is said that Yam Dev had brought back the life of Mata Savitri’s husband Satyavan under the Banyan tree. Observing Vat Savitri Vrat prolongs the life of the husband.
