Where is Akhtaruzzaman hiding? Three countries set a net to catch the killer of Bangladesh MP
Bangladesh Awami League MP Anwarul Azim Anar was brutally murdered in Kolkata. Police investigations have revealed that the body of the deceased MP has not been found yet despite his body being cut into pieces and later disposed of after the murder. Three criminals from Bangladesh and one from India have been arrested for the murder of the Bangladeshi MP, but the mastermind behind the murder, businessman Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen, is still at large. Investigation revealed that the main culprit is in the US. Bangladesh Home Minister Asadullah Khan said businessman Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen was the prime suspect in the MP's murder, and that his ministry was working with Nepal, India and the United States to apprehend him and investigate him. In an exclusive conversation with PTI, Asaduzzaman Khan said that the Bangladesh Police is looking for Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen. He is wanted as the main suspect in MP's murder. The Bangladesh government has sought the help of Indian, Nepalese and US law enforcement agencies to arrest him. With the help of these agencies including Interpol, the Bangladesh government is working on a system to bring back Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen from the US, Asadhusman Khan said. MP's family is in touch with all relevant agencies including Interpol to ensure justice. Police have arrested three people. Two of them have criminal background. Old records of the accused woman are also being examined. However, the Bangladesh Home Minister did not clarify the motive behind the murder. He said it will be known soon. While India is demanding the extradition of the main accused, a senior West Bengal police official said Bangladesh has no extradition treaty with the US government but has one with India. The Bengal police are planning to extradite Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen to India as the crime was committed in Bengal. Anar's close friend and business associate Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen lives in New York City and is believed to hold US citizenship. In Kolkata, Bangladeshi MP Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen was invited to a luxurious residential complex in Kolkata's New Town area with the help of Bangladeshi model Celeste Rehman. Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen arrived in India on April 30 and returned to Bangladesh on May 10. After that, he went to Nepal on May 18 and later to Dubai and is currently believed to be in New York City. Although Akhtaruzzaman could not be reached in the United States, his brother Mohammad Shahiduzaman, the mayor of Khodchandpur Municipality in Zenaida, Bangladesh, said that if his brother is found guilty, he should be prosecuted.
